TIRUCHI: Members of Tamil Nadu Devendra Kula Velalar Kootamaippu observed fast in the city on Monday demanding cessation of the ongoing war in Sri Lanka. The day-long fast held near the Khadi Kraft junction was headed by Kootamaippu founder and president C. Pasupathy Pandian.
Tamizhar Desiya Iyakka leader Pazha. Nedumaran, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko, Tamil Nadu Mutharayar Munnetra Sangam president R. Viswanathan, Tamil Nadu Yadava Maha Sabhai president M. Gopalakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Konguvelalar Ilaignar Peravai V. Thaniyarasu and Editor of Puthiya Paarvai M. Natarajan lent their support to the fasting members by taking part in the event.
Speaking to reporters at the venue, Mr. Vaiko said the Sri Lankan government headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa had embarked on a war to wipe out Tamils in the island nation.
‘Indirect role’
He alleged that the Indian government was playing an indirect role in the ethnic war by supplying arms and radars to Sri Lanka. He claimed that there was proof of the indirect role.
